We introduced Jazmin (and her mum Alison) to someone who helped save her, Jan - a regular volunteer and donor to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
Two years ago, 13 year old Jazmin had stopped breathing due to a severe Asthma attack which lead her to fall unconscious.
Unconscious with no pulse, her step-dad Darryl and a neighbour immediately started CPR. Their actions kept Jazmin alive, but she was still in a serious condition - knowing CPR can help save a life.
With every second critical, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called in. Juliet was the Intensive Care Paramedic on the Westpac Rescue Helicopter that day, on shift with crewman Wayne. They knew they had to get Jazmin to hospital as quickly as possible. It’s in medical emergencies like this that a quick response from the Westpac Rescue Helicopter can make all the difference – every second counts.
By road it would take over an hour and in many rural areas intensive care paramedics are not available. Thanks to the Air Rescue crew Jazmin was at Christchurch Hospital 20 minutes later.
